Ihmisen tietoisuuden luonne ja missä tietoisuus sijaitsee herättää vieläkin kysymyksiä tieteen piirissä. Monet uskovat, että ihmisen (ja eläinten) tietoisuus ei perustu aivojen materiaan vaan tietoisuus luodaan niiden ulkopuolella.

Kuoleman jälkeinen elämä ei millään lailla todista kristinuskon kertomusta siitä todeksi (tai todemmaksi kuin muiden), koska myös muilla uskonnoilla on vastaavia käsityksiä.
